All contributions are tax-deductible donations. Therefore, we do not set a required registration fee. We do ask those who are able to contribute a minimum $20 donation to join the 3 game individual tournament on Saturday

For informal teams of friends and family members we ask a minimum donation of $100 for Sunday’s tournament;
for teams representing a coffee shop or other small business, organization, or club we ask them to try to raise at least $250;
and for representatives of larger businesses, service organizations, schools, dormitories, fraternities/sororities,  or the like we’d ask you to try to raise at least $500.
(Last year, Chadbourne Residence halls raised over $500 in a penny war!)

Special recognition will be given to those who raise the most funds.

Fundraising Ideas

Send this website to your friends and relatives. Have them donate online and designate to whom their support is going.

Organize a Scrabble party- once or weekly!  Provide popcorn and other inexpensive snacks and ask your guests to kick in $5 toward sponsoring whoever surfaces as the best scorers from your group to represent your house/wing/floor. Or, charge people to peek at the dictionary, for misspells, bogus or annoying words, or for losing! Make up different rules or assign word themes each week to keep them on their toes.

Organize an in-house tournament at your workplace, school, coffee house or bar. Have players compete to raise funds to back them. Sell the seats to represent your group – heck, it almost worked in Illinois!

Advertise where you hang out; posters will be available after January 2 upon request.
Have a penny war at your work or study place.  Better yet, just fill change jars!
